Dupre Plays Bach and Mozart | Main Performer or Conductor: | Marcel Dupre | | Instrumentation: | Organ | | Individual Works: | Prelude and Fugue in E-flat Major, BWV 552 ("St. Anne")
Fantasy in F Minor, K. 608 (Mozart)
Adagio and Allegro in F Minor, K. 594 (Mozart) | | Format: | Vinyl Record | | Record Label: | Overtone | | Catalog Number: | 14 | | Year Released/Recorded: | 1955 | | Comments: | Although recorded when Dupre was at the ripe age of 66, his performances still display the virtuosity and crispness which made his Bach recitals at the Trocadero in Paris the stuff of legend. His playing is clean and even, and clearly demonstrates that Dupre has mastered the works presented here. While other, more recent recordings have a clearer sound and a more noticeable difference among the organ registers, in my mind the classic Cavaille-Coll sound of Saint Sulpice is supremely preferable. For those interested in vintage recordings, or the work of a true musical giant, or both, this rare recording is a must. | | Acknowledgements: | Thank you to the following for submitting this recording and for your comments: | | Date First Submitted: | 07/24/1997 | | Purchasing: | Suggested Purchasing Sources
