Well-Tempered Clavier, Books 1 and 2

Main Performer
or Conductor:
Walter Gieseking
Individual Works:Complete Preludes and Fugues from both books of the Well-Tempered Clavier.
Format:Compact Disc
Record Label:Deutsche Grammophon
Catalog Number: 429 929-2
Year Released/Recorded:1950
Total Playing Time: 3:30 and 28sec
Comments:This is a three disc set. The tempos are remarkably quick (generally much faster than Gould, e.g.). His articulation tends toward the legato. Still, he has an uncanny ability to bring out the different voices in the fugues, which I think are remarkable. The preludes are less remarkable. This set would not be my first choice, but it is growing on me.
