Recorded on the same instrument Gilbert used for WTC. Emphasizes the "art of the dance" equally with the "art of the canon". Judicious selection of repeats keeps the piece moving and gives it proportion. Miquel de Quadras: Kenneth Gilbert doesn't only "plays" it, I think he rather feels it, or, at least, makes me feel "in" the variations as no other performer (except, perhaps, Gustav Leonhardt) can do. Jan Hanford said: One of the liveliest interpretations on harpsichord I've heard. Gilbert's harpsichord sound is resonant, as usual. Although I prefer a drier sound, his playing makes this cd highly recommended.
