Not quite such a cheat as its partner recording of the apocryphal Bach cantatas, since recent scholarship has argued that Anh. 159 is the genuine article from early in Bach's career. (Daniel Melamed has shown that the earlier attribution to J.Christoph Bach was an early 19th century speculation and that before that time it was considered genuine). Anh. 160 is now thought to be a pastiche of Telemann-arranged-by-Bach, genuine Bach and Telemann-arranged-by-Harrer (Bach's Leipzig successor). All the motets on the disc are attractive and the performances are thoroughly sympathetic. Recommended. |
