Comments:Christiaan Müller organ, St. Bavo, Haarlem, The Netherlands
The dignified, stately St. Bavo organ is captured beautifully. At its console none other than a man who has been associated with this unique organ for most of his musical life. To my ears, Piet Kee's Bach-playing is characterized by a sense of reverence and authority, devoid of fashionable effects. Because of this, it has great "staying power". I get a great sense of contentment from the way Piet Kee "simply" lets the music unfold, seemingly on its own terms, and in its own good time. The Fantasia & Fugue are noble, the "Orgel-B³chlein" chorale preludes devout, the (youthful) Prelude & Fugue in C fresh and powerful, "Allein Gott..." is wonderfully introspective, "Erbarm dich..." not as haunting as I can imagine it, and the Prelude & Fugue in h are monumental. Utterly fulfilling Bach-playing.

The Great Fantasia & Fugue in G minor BWV 542 & the organ of St. Bavo in Haarlem & one of the greatest organist of XX centuryþ nothing to add. It is simply the best interpretation of the Bachþs Fantasia Iþve ever heard. Also Prelude & Fugue in B minor is outstanding. By the way... if you will see the CD "Piet Kee plays Bruhns & Buxtehude at the organ of Roskilde Cathedral" (CHAN 0539) - you must hear it!!! It will amaze you!!!
