A very enojoyable recording of these wonderful pieces. Kipnis demonstrates very well the virtuosity which theses pieces were intended to highlight. This is one of my favorite recordings, and the only faults I find with it, are: 1) Kipnis at times can play at an almost too quick speed. AND 2) The sound of his harpsichord seems a little thin when I compare say, BWV 906 played by Kenneth Gilbert, with it. One interesting point about this recording is that tracks 7-10 (BWV's 919, 961, 922, and 903a) are played on the clavichord; an instrument of which I own no other recordings. This is a very enjoyable recording which would make a wonderful addition to anyone's Bach collection. A delightful change of approach. |
