Ton Koopman and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra/Choir truly have a gift for interpreting the Great Works of Bach. Their playing (on period instruments) and singing of the B minor Mass is nothing short of incredible -- every nuance, phrase, and emotion is brought to life. The soloists (both vocal and instrumental) are colorful and sensitive, the choir sings with impeccable clarity, and the orchestra sounds pure and focused. There is nothing that holds this ensemble down. When the music is that of Bach's ageless, immortal B minor mass, the recording becomes a doorway that leads to something QUITE extraordinary. |
