Newman plays the Reiger Organ in the Recital Hall of The Department Of Music at The State University Of New York at Purchase. The recording is very good for its time and still stands up to more recent recordings. On a few tracks you can hear the idiosyncracies of this particular organ but they don't detract from this recording, they only make it interesting. The only real drawbacks to this recording would probably be for fans of extensive liner notes, because for one thing, does not discuss any of the chorales as he does the other pieces on this disc, the notes are only three panels long, and not only are BWV numbers not listed on the chorales (hence why I didn't/couldn't list them here), but the numbers on the recording are misidentified as S.### works by either Newman or the record company. Still, since this was the first Bach organ album I ever obtained (in 1989), it's still worth it for the music.
