A very intense, even fervent offering of these little masterpieces by J.S. Bach, presented by Peter Schreier, the premier tenor interpreter of such songs (as well as cantatas and oratorios) and with the dramatic and brilliant firmament provided by Karl Richter at the great Silbermann organ in the Freiberg Cathedral.
Yet in all their intensity, they never lose focus. Balance is maintained perfectly and unobtrusively, so that the power of this music flows freely to the heart of the listener.

P.S.: The quality of the original recording is superb. Prior to this release on CD, the proprieter of a top audiophile shop in Oslo tried to wheedle me out of my vinyl copy (also Archiv) as soon as he heard it.
